Before we parents harp on all the ill video gaming can cause our children, like obesity and violent behavior, there is a fair amount of good news about some very significant benefits of being a gamer.

This USAToday article entitled Studies: video games can make better students, surgeons highlights scientific studies that show video gamers are learning very valuable dexterity, math, scientific thinking, problem-solving and planning skills.

As more surgeries than ever before are being performed with less invasive, often tiny instruments, the ability of a surgeon to manipulate instruments remotely grows rapidly. The most compelling study result is that additional training on the instruments does not provide the same high level of fine motor skills as playing video games does.
