As a chemist I am and have always been fascinated by physics, especially quantum physics and the whole concept of reality.
Here is a Dr. Quantum video about particles and waves on the macro scale and on the quantum scale. If you missed the previous Dr. Quantum video post, here is the link: Dr. Quantum Presents Quantum Physics Theory. Please watch and enjoy it.
Notice that in quantum physics, the observer is not impartial and actually affects the system it is observing. What does this tell you about the world? What does this tell you about the choices you make? Do you think you can change yourself and the world around you by changing your mind?
Please leave your thoughts in the comments.
Dr. Quantum is a cartoon character created by Dr. Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D. in theoretical physics, for his comic book series to teach kids about quantum physics.
Before we parents harp on all the ill video gaming can cause our children, like obesity and violent behavior, there is a fair amount of good news about some very significant benefits of being a gamer.
This USAToday article entitled Studies: video games can make better students, surgeons highlights scientific studies that show video gamers are learning very valuable dexterity, math, scientific thinking, problem-solving and planning skills.
As more surgeries than ever before are being performed with less invasive, often tiny instruments, the ability of a surgeon to manipulate instruments remotely grows rapidly. The most compelling study result is that additional training on the instruments does not provide the same high level of fine motor skills as playing video games does.
Please click over and read the article. It’s really interesting, especially for those of us trying like mad to keep our kids from being video game junkies!
Dr. Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D., aka Dr. Quantum, is a quantum physicist and earned his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at UCLA in 1963. He is a world renowned author, speaker and researcher. Some of his many books include:
Taking the Quantum Leap
Parallel Universes
The Dreaming Universe
The Eagle’s Quest
The Spiritual Universe
Mind into Matter
Matter into Feeling
The Yoga of Time Travel: How the Mind Can Defeat Time
Dr. Quantum Presents, A Little Book of Big Ideas
Dr. Wolf’s greatest gift seems to be his ability to explain very complex, theoretical ideas in terms most anyone can understand. Dr. Quantum is a comic book character created by Dr. Wolf to explain quantum physics to children.
He asks the big questions:
Where did we come from?
Why are we here?
What is reality?
What is consciousness?
Does the observer change a system just by the act of observing it?
Does the observer change reality?
His current research concerns the relationship between quantum physics and consciousness.
Quantum physics is fundamental to all science, and even to reality itself. I hope you will enjoy watching the video below for a down-to-earth explanation of the really far-out subject of quantum physics. It’s about 7 minutes in length.
Do you have questions? Write them down and visit Dr. Wolf’s website and ask them: Ask Dr. Quantum. Click on the “Ask Dr. Quantum” link and type in your question. He may answer it by email. He may also post your question and the answer on his website.
Stay tuned for more Dr. Quantum videos and more on physics, and quantum physics.
